ABOUT ME
"I always believed that the strategic cooperation among phenomenally different scientific fields, can lead to dramatically more productive approaches in contemporary scientific challenges. Art can be the glue that brings all these intellectual yet scattered and radically different parts together, making them easily approachable by the largest possible audience, no matter the educational and financial background."

Efthymios Pournaras biography photo
Efthymios P. Pournaras is an accomplished academic and also a self-taught artist. He completed his secondary education at the Yiagtzion-Delmouzion High School in Amfissa. His academic journey continued at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, specialising in Nuclear and Particle Physics. He further expanded his knowledge base by obtaining a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from the Department of Biology, specifically the Cell Biology & Biophysics sector of NKUA. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Risk Management from the Department of Economics at the same university.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Efthymios has cultivated a passion for art. He is a self-taught artist with a focus on drawing and painting, which have been lifelong hobbies. His formal art education includes certificates in: a) the Theory and Practice of Street Art, b) the History of Western Art from the Renaissance to the Modern Era, c) the Comics Creation encompassing history, texting, genres, and narrative techniques, and d) the theoretical training in Byzantine Painting with a focus on creative hagiography, composition and drawing techniques. These certificates were awarded by the Center of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CCE/KEDIVIM) of NKUA.
Over the years, Efthymios has experimented with various artistic mediums, but he has a particular fondness for graphite and charcoal pencils. His love for fantastical creatures is evident in his creation of comics and short stories featuring three unique characters: the eerie GAGRENA, the purplish creature MUMUTI, and the humorous and eccentric persona Beaucoup d’ Argent. These creations perhaps hint at his inclination towards neo-figurative surrealism when interpreting everyday life concepts through his artwork.
