Artist's statement:
Many of us are raised in an environment that is sterile, overly protective, and heavily guarded, akin to an adiabatic chamber. Concurrently, we are compelled to adhere to rigid social conventions and assume personas that fail to reflect our true identity, psyche, or essence. Society demands that we fit the mold of the archetypal strong male, the flawless individual, the fearless character. We are conditioned to be prisoners of our fears, which, in truth, are either completely baseless or so trivial and insignificant in the grand scheme of our fleeting lives that such mental anguish and time spent worrying seem utterly futile.
The intense stare of the resentful boy serves as a reminder that it is up to us, through our inherent strength and without reliance on others, to shatter these chains and liberate our spirits from this “affliction,” symbolised by the figure of Nosferatu (meaning ‘the one who carries the disease,’ akin to the Greek term “νοσοφόρος”) depicted on the left as in F. W. Murnau’s expressionist film of the same title. We must confront our fears with the realisation that they are merely overblown fabrications, either by those who are timid and weak-willed or by manipulators who stand to gain from our continued subjugation and lack of resistance.
